وقعتْ مسألةُ طهارة الإنسان ونجاسته، ولمدَّة مُتمادية، مورداً للبحث والنّقد عند فقهاء الشّيعة العظام؛ فجَمعٌ أفتى بنَجاسة تمام أفرادِ البَشر مستثنياً المُسلمين، فيما التزم فريق آخر بدخول أهل الكتاب في هذا الإستثمار.
ونظراً لأهمية المسألة، خصوصاً في الزمن المعاصر، اعد السيد محمد الطهراني هذه الرسالة وهي حصيلة ما أورده من البحوث والدّروسِ حول موضوع طَهَارةِ الإنسان؛ وقد تم تقسيم الكتاب إلى ستة فصول توزعت وفق ما يلي: الفصل الأول: "في بيان حقيقة النجاسة وأقسامها"، الفصل الثاني: "في إستعمال لفظ النجس في عُرفِ المُتشرعة"، الفصل الثالث: "في بيان معنى الشرك وتحديد مفاد الآية الشريفة {إِنَّمَا الْمُشْرِكُونَ نَجَسٌ}، الفصل الرابع: في ذكر روايات الباب وكيفية دلالتها على المطلوب، الفصل الخامس: في ذكر أقوال الفقهاء رضوان الله عليهم في هذه المسألة، الفصل السادس: في توضيح الإجماع المدعى على نجاسة غير المسلمين، خاتمة البحث في بيان مسائل عدة.
إن خلقة الإنسان مبنية على أساس فطرة التوحيد ، وهي الإقرار والاعتراف بالربوبية والوحدانية لحضرة الحق جل وعلا في جميع آثاره ورشحاته الوجودية بما هو أعم من أسمائه وصفاته وأفعاله؛ إذ"كل مولود يولد على الفطرة، ثم أبواه يهودانه وينصرانه ويمجسانه" و هذه الحقيقة الوجودية تلازمه وتقارنه في جميع أطواره و أدوار حياته.
