وصف قاسم أمين ما حدث يوم تنفيذ الحكم فى حادثة دنشواى بقوله "لقد رأيت عند كل شخص تقابلت معه قلبا مجروحا، وزورا مخنوقا، ودهشة عصيبة بادية فى الأيدى وفى الأصوات، وكان الحزن على جميع الوجوه، حزن ساكت مستسلم للقوة،" فلم تكن قسوة الأحكام فى دنشواى عقابا للفلاحين الذين تجرأوا على الاحتلال بقدر ما كانت حكما قاسيا على مصر برمتها وتأكيدا على ان الاحتلال قادر على أن يرهب المصريين جميعا. لكن المصريين رفضوا كل القيود والأغلال وراحوا يعبرون عن رفضهم بوسائلهم الخاصة التى فشل الاحتلال فى الحد من حصارها.ة
