الكتاب، كما هو واضح من اسمه، شرح على متن: المتن هو "تجريد العقائد" للمحقق الخواجة نصير الدين الطوسي. والشرح هو "كشف الفوائد، للفقيه الأصولي، العلامة الحسن بن يوسف بن المطهر الحلي.
وكأي عمل تحقيقي، انطلق عمل المحقق فيه من نسخ معتمدة وموثوقة. حيث اعتمد خطة عمل تعتمد أساساً على تحري أصح المعنى الذي يرمي إليه الماتن أو الشارح، وهذا ابتنى على أمور: أولاً: حذف الاختلافات اللفظية التي يظهر بوضوح أنها خطأ، أو أن تغايرها غير مؤثر بتاتاً على المعنى، وإثبات الاختلافات المؤثرة بوضوح أو التي قد تكون كذلك بنحو من الأنحاء، ولو اجتهاداً أو تشهياً. ثانياً: تصحيح الأخطاء النحوية واللغوية وبالأخص أخطاء التأنيث والتذكير التي بدت شائعة في النسختين. ثالثاً: إخراج الكتاب من فوضى التداخل في الموضوعات، ونفضه من (عجقة) التراكم في الكلمات، والتي كانت إلى حد لا يكاد يعرف -في كثير من المواضع- المبتدأ من الخبر، ولا أول الجملة اللاحقة من آخر الجملة السالفة، ولا كلام الشارح من الكلام المنقول، وبالأخص لا يكاد يميز الإشكال من الجواب من الاستدلال.
وعلى هذا، فكل ما في الكتاب من عناوين الأبواب والأصول والفصول والعناوين الأصلية وفروعها، وتحريك الكلمات والعلامات الكتابية. والفصل والتقطيع وأمثالها، فهو من ابتكار المحقق ووضعه، رغبة في التسهيل والتوضيح وإحياء هذا الأثر الفكري العظيم. رابعاً: التعليق على بعض المواضع المغلقة، أو المحتاجة إلى شيء من البيان، تعليقاً مقتضباً خشية الخروج عن المرسوم من التحقيق.
