يُعد كتاب تاريخ الفلسفة والتصوف أو مناظرة الدكتور مع الدرويش من الآثار الثمينة للشيخ علي النمازي الشاهرودي وقد أثبت فيه بطلان الطرق البشرية كالفلسفة والتصوف استناداً إلى الروايات الواردة عن المعصومين عليهم السلام. وأنه بتسلطه الكامل على معارف أهل البيت عليهم السلام والإستدلالات العقلية، أبطل التأويلات التي تمسك بها أبناء الطائفتين لإثبات أفكارهم ومشابهم.
وقد تم ترتيب الكتاب وتبويبه على ستة فصول:
الفصل الأول: الشريعة والطريقة.
الفصل الثاني: حقيقة وحدة الوجود.
الفصل الثالث: طريقة الشرايع في هداية البشر.
الفصل الرابع: معرفة الله الفطرية.
الفصل الخامس: الردّ على الفلاسفة والصوفية.
وفي الفصل الأخير: أكد المؤلف على ضرورة الرجوع إلى الكتاب والسنة في جميع المعارف الدينية.
