يندرج هذا الكتاب في إطار دعوةٍ متناميةٍ إلى قيام حوار بين الحضارات، تعمُّ العالم بأسره في سياق العولمة الراهنة؛ فهو يبحث بصورة جديدة ومعمّقة في جوهر التقاليد الصينيّة، أي في "روحها" العميقة و"مشاعرها" الكامنة، والتي تتشكل من معتقدات المجتمع الصيني وطقوسه والممارسات المؤثّرة فيه.
في الكتاب رصدٌ للحركة الثقافيّة الجديدة التي شهدتها الصين في عشرينيّات القرن المنصرم، ولا سيّما عمل الكونفوشيوسيّين الجدد، وفيه شرحٌ لفلسفة التناغم الكوني، كمسعىً ثقافيّ وفلسفيّ عابر للثقافات، من غير أن يعني بالضرورة الذوبان في ثقافة الآخر وفقدان الهويّة الثقافية الأصيلة.
ويتركّز البحث في ثلاثة مفاهيم على صلة وثيقة بإهتمامات البشرية عموماً في عصرنا الحالي، وهي تياندي أي الطبيعة، وشيانداو أي طريق السماء، وتيانشيا أي الأرض أو العالم، كمنظومة ثلاثيّة الأطراف في نظرية وحدة السماء والإنسان.
يصول الكتاب ويجول بين مفاهيم السعاد، والفضيلة والحرّية الروحيّة من منظور الطاويّة، وغيرها الكثير من المفاهيم والأفكار الفلسفيّة، من أجل التنوير الفكري والسموّ الأخلاقي، إذ إنّ إحدى غايات الكتاب هي الدعوة إلى الإستفادة من التراث الصيني ومصادره ومنابعه لإعادة بناء الحاضر، وتشكيل إستراتيجيّات "تهذيب شخصي" و"تأمّل جمالي" من شأنها أن تغذّي الروح، وذلك بما يمهّد الطريق أمام البشر في العالم بأسره لينعموا بالإستقرار والعيش بسلام وكرامة.
