يحمل الشعر الصيني في مزيجه المركب وسياقاته المختلفة، كلاسيكية وحداثية، قيماً معرفية كبرى، هي قيم العقل والحكمة والفطنة والمنازع الفلسفية والفكرية والروحية، ذات المناحي التأمّلية التي تميّزه عن غيره من الأنواع الشعرية السائدة في العالم، إنه شعر البواطن والجوّانيّات، والتساؤلات الكونية، شعر هرمسي أحياناً وتارة واقعي معجون بالخيال والفانتازيا، شعر المشاعر الداخلية العميقة للإنسان في صراعه مع الحياة والوجود ومع قوى الخير والشر، والقوى المهيمنة على مقاليد البشرية، وهو كذلك شعر الرؤى، شعر الأسئلة البسيطة ولكن المنطوية على أبعاد كونية محلقة في المجاهل، وميزته أيضاً تأتي من كونه شعراً غارقاً في الصدق، لا بل مذهلاً في صديقته وهواجسه ولواعجه الدفينة، ومرتبطاً منذ القدم بمناخ الحياة اليوميّة، عبر أشكال وأنساق من الموحيات التي ترتبط بالطبيعة والكون والإرث الرمزي لبعض التيّارات الروحانية مثل الكونفوشيوسية والطاوية ومذهب مؤسسها "لاو تساو" الذي كان ينادي بالتوحّد الروحي والإبتعاد عن القضايا المرحلية والاحداث السياسية الراهنة، بغية التسامي العقلي والباطني للإنسان، فالشعر القديم وهو شعر عظيم الثراء في مادته الجمالية، شعر كان يستهدف الإنسان ومعاناته وحيرته وقلقه وشكله أمام العوالم الميتافيزيقية.
