يحتوي هذا الكتاب من "سلسلة محاضرات الإمارات" على نص المحاضرة التي ألقيت يوم السبت الموافق في 17 شباط/فبراير 2001، في مركز الإمارات للدراسات والبحوث الاستراتيجية، والتي جاءت تحت عنوان "تطور نظم الاتصال في المجتمعات المعاصرة" والتي يتبع فيها المؤلف وهو الدكتور "راسم محمد الجمال" الجذور التاريخية والتطورات التي مرت بها نظم ووسائل الاتصال على المستويين الدولي والوطني، عبر تقسيمه مراحل تطور نظم الاتصال إلى ست مراحل أساسية هي: المرحلة الأولى: البداية الأولى لنظم الاتصال المعاصر (1825-1914). المرحلة الثانية: مرحلة الحرب العالمية الأولى (1914-1918)، المرحلة الثالثة: مرحلة ما بين الحربين العالميتين (1919-1939). المرحلة الرابعة: مرحلة الحرب العالمية الثانية (1939-1945). المرحلة الخامسة: مرحلة الحرب الباردة (1946-1989). المرحلة السادسة: مرحلة العولمة من عام 1990 حتى الآن.
