كتاب "فصوص الحكم" وكتاب "الفتوحات المكية" لمحيي الدين ابن العربي هما أهم ما ألّف في العرفان الصوفي السامي على الإطلاق، ومنذ كتابة الفصوص قبل تسعة قرون لم يكشف أحد من شرّاحه الكثيرين سرّ ترتيب أبوابه السبعة والعشرين، لكل باب فص حكمة معيّنة منسوبة لنبي معيّن، لكن ترتيب الانبياء غير موافق لتسلسلهم التاريخي، ولا لأي ترتيب معهود آخر، وبقيت هذه المسألة لغزاً محيّراً.
وفي هذا الكتاب كشف مفصل لهذا السرّ من خلال الباب 198 من "الفتوحات المكية" المتعلق بنفس الرحمان - بفتح الفاء - وبمعرفة هذا المفتاح الأساسي تنكشف في نصوص الفصوص لطائف ومعارف عزيزة لطيفة لا يمكن إدراكها دون معرفة ذلك المفتاح.
ويتألف الكتاب من ثلاثة أقسام:
-القسم الأول: يحتوي على مقدمة، وبيان لمفاتيح ترتيب أبواب الفصوص وبنيته الكلية، وكشف غير مسبوق للمفاتيح القرآنية لأشهر كتب الشيخ الأكبر، وتفصيل للسور المناسبة لأبواب الفصول.
-القسم الثاني: يتألف من 28 فصلاً، لبيان الإسم الإلهي الذي يستمدّ منه كل فصل، ومرتبته الوجودية، وحرفه اللفظي، ومنزلته الفلكية، والإشارات الخفية المبثوثة في كل فص الدالة على ذلك.
القسم الثالث: يتالف من 27 فصلاً، لبيان السورة المناسبة لكل فص، وتلويحات الشيخ لآياتها، وكيفية إرتباط الأبواب وتسلسلها البديع.
-القسم الرابع: فيه بيان لإعجاز عددي خفي يتعلق ببنية الفصوص الكلية ومفاتيحه، يتمثل في علاقات عددية لطيفة عجيبة، أي أسماء الانبياء والسّور والأسماء الحسنى وأوصاف الحكم والبسملة والفاتحة، وأهم هذه الأعداد هي: 28/ 36/ 360/ 365/ 406/ 1572.
