بعد ما يزيد عن أربعين سنة مرت على صدور الطبعة الأولى لديوان سويد بن ابي كاهل اليشكري (ق نحو سنة 60ه) تأتي هذه الطبعة المصححة من جمع وتحقيق الأستاذ شاكر العاشور الذي ضم إليها ما استطاع من شعر لـ سويد استخرجه من بطون المظان وخرّجه ورتبه ترتيباً أبجدياً، بعد اختيار الرواية التي أقرب إلى الصواب حول (عينية سويد) التي يدور حولها الكلام في هذا الكتاب والعينية وفقاً للمحقق العاشور: "مطولة من مطولات العرب الجيدة، ضمت أغلب أعراض الشعر العربي من غزل وفخر وهجاء ووصف رائع وجميل. وقد جعلت هذه القصيدة من سويد شاعراً ضمه إبن سلام إلى عمرو بن كلثوم والحارث من حمزة وعنترة في الطبقة السادسة من شعراء الجاهلية، وفضّلها الأصمعي، وقد وجدت هذه القصيدة من الشهرة ما لحظناه من انتشار لأبياتها في أغلب المظان".
يبلغ عدد أبيات هذه القصيدة (مئة وثمانية) حسب رواية المفضل، وزاد الخالديان عليها بيتاً واحداً ... وحسبنا ما قاله الأصمعي في العينية "كانت العرب في الجاهلية تفضلها وتقدمها وتعدها من حكمها، وإن كانت في الجاهلية تسمى باليتيمة".
من القصيدة العينية للشاعر اليشكريّ نقرأ ما افتتحه الشاعر بها بقوله:
"ونعم الحيُّ في الحدثان قيس / إذا حاد الكميت عن الضراب ، وقد ابقى الحوادث من سويدٍ / رفيع الطرق، طلاع النقاب" ...
واختتمها بقوله:
كأن رحلي على شفواء حادرةٍ / ظمياء قد بل من طلٍ خوافيها ، لها أشارير من لحمٍ تتمرهُ / من الثعالى ووخزٌ من أرانيها".
