يشكل التخطيط الإستراتيجي أهم الوظائف التي من الممكن أن تماسها المنظمات إذ قد تمتلك المنظمات المقدرات المالية الجيدة التكنولوجية المتقدمة والتنظيمية الناجحة وموارد بشرية ذات مقدرات جوهرية نادرة، ولكن لم تكون قادرة على توجيها وإستغلالها بالشكل الذي يتوافق مع أهدافها دون ممارسة وظيفة التخطيط الإستراتيجي.
ولقد جاء إعداد هذا الكتاب نتيجة الخبرة التي اكتسبها الكاتبان نتيجة دراستهما وكتاب عدد من البحوث في حقل إدارة الأعمال، وقد حاولا تجنب الإسراف عبر المبرر والإطالة الزائدة عبر التركيز على جوهر الموضوع.
ويقع الكتاب في سبعة فصول، إذ يركز الفصل الأول على مفهوم التخطيط بشكل عام وأهميتها وطرق بناءها، وجاء الفصل الثاني ليوضح مفهوم المدير الإستراتيجي، وركز الفصل الثالث على طبيعة التفكير الإستراتيجي، وخصص الفصل الرابع لتوضيح التخطيط الإستراتيجي، اما الفصل الخامس فقد وضع ما المقصود بتحديد التوجه الإستراتيجي، وجاء الفصل السادس ليركز على التحليل الإستراتيجي، وركز الفصل السابع الأخير على الإختيار الإستراتيجي.
وأخيراً نقول أن هذا الجهد قد تشوبه بعض الهفات أو الهفوات هنا أو هناك، كونه يمثل جهد إنساني قابل للتصويب والمراجعة، وستكون مسرورين ومنقحين لأية ملاحظة تردنا من ذوي الإختصاص.
