هذه دراسات مقارنة بين أدبي الشرق والغرب، وفصول منها في هذا الكتاب الذي أرجو أن يلقى قبولاً حسناً لدى القراء، إذ أنه لون جديد من البحث والمقارنة حتى نستطيع أن نتبين مكانة أدبنا بين الآداب الغربية، ونقارن بين المذاهب المختلفة التي طرقها الأدباء والشعراء في الشرق والغرب، كما تناولت فيه جهود علماء الغرب في الشرق، وأثر علماء الشرق في الغرب. والكتاب يضم فصولاً في الإجتماع فضلاً عن فصول الأدب، غير أن الإطار الذي تتراءى فيه هذه الفصول هو إطار المقارنة بين الشرق والغرب، حتى يمكن تحديد مكانة العرب في المجتمع البشري كله. ولقد كان النقاد يعتقدون ولا يزالون يعتقدون حتى الآن أن أنجح الوسائل لتوضيح مكانة الأدب هي مقارنته بالآداب الأخرى، وحينئذ تتجلى قيمته، وتتضح لنا مكانته. هذا هو هدفي من هذا الكتاب، لهذا جعلته زاخراً بالمقارنات، حافلاً بالمساجلات لنعرف مالنا وما علينا.
