«الشيطان» هي الرواية الرابعة بعد «السمّ الكلامي» و«أوراق الماضي وقضايا أخرى» و«قصر الدم وقضايا أخرى»للكاتب فراس عوض الله. وهي رواية مرتبطة بالروايتين السابقتين وتتمحور حول الصراع بين الخير والشر وتدور أحداثها في عالم الجريمة الغامضة التي يعهد الكاتب خلالها إلى بطله، شارلوك هولمز العصر الحديث "هيرشار" للكشف عن سلسلة من الجرائم. تبدأ أولى خيوطها في قضية اختفاء شخص، يعثر وخلال تحريه عن مقتله على جثة شخص آخر. ومن هنا يدخل "هيرشار" ومعه رجال التحري في لعبة بوليسية كبيرة، تتمظهر روائياً عبر سلسلة من الوقائع المفاجئة والمطاردات الخطيرة لعملاء "أف بي آي"، الستة؛ وخاصة النساء اللواتي سيكون لهن الدور الأكبر في إخفاء العديد من الحقائق، لنكتشف لاحقاً: سرّ الشقيقتان التوأم؛ اختفاء بيريس؛ جثّة رجل مدفونة في الغابة؛ قتل سانيا؛ مصرع أوكنان وغير ذلك الكثير. أما خبر احتراق جثّة "هيرشار" مع سيارته، فسيكون اللغز الذي يكشف خيوط جرائم أخرى ومن أهمها الساحر الذي بدأت معه الحكاية، والشيطان الذي تنتهي معه آخر جريمة: "الأب الذي يقتل ابنه بدل إنقاذه.. أب شيطان"!
ولكن ماذا عن الإبن الذي ينتقم لمقتل والده هل هو شيطان أيضاً؟!
- من أجواء الرواية نقرأ:
"ابتسم أوكنان، أخذ هاتفها ووضعه في الدرج مجدداً، ثم استدار وحدّق إليها، ابتسم وفتح درجاً آخر وأخرج جهاز تحكّم وضغط زرّا فانفتحت الستارة لتظهر شاشة.. فهمت وحدّقت مرعوبة.
"نعم، سأذهب.. وأنت سترين الساحر وهو يموت. الشاشة موصولة بقطعة على بذلتي.. ستشاهدين موته. لكن لا تقلقي.. ستلتقيان قريباً معاً في الجحيم".
اقترب منها بعدها وقد أخرج من جيبه منشفة صغيرة ثم أمسك أنفها حتى فتحت فمها.. بعدها أدخل المنشفة فيه ثمّ وضع شريطاً لاصقاً عليه.
قرّب وجهه منها ونظر إليها بعينيه الزرقاوين".
