تكتب القصة القصيرة.
وحائزة على جائزة نوبل في الأدب في أكتوبر 2013 .
اعتبرت لجنة منح الجائزة أن القصص القصيرة التي تؤلفها الكاتبة هي من بين الأفضل في العالم حالياً.
سبق لها الحصول على جائزة البوكر للآداب في عام 2009.
كاتبة كندية وُصِفَت أعمالها بأنها أحدثت ثورة في بنية القصة القصيرة.
وعلى مدار حياتها المهنية الحافلة، حازت مونرو العديد من الجوائز، منها جائزة نوبل في الأدب عام ٢٠١٣م عن أعمالها باعتبارها «سيدة فن الأقصوصة الأدبي المعاصر»، وجائزة «مان بوكر» الدولية عام ٢٠٠٩م عن أعمالها القصصية التي ألفتها على مدار مشوارها الإبداعي.
وتتميز قصص مونرو بأنها تستكشف الجوانب الإنسانية المعقدة بأسلوب نثري بسيط.

تعاملت أولًا مع القبو. وهو قبو فعلًا لا مجرد طابق تحت الأرض. ممرات من ألواح خشبية، وأرضية ترابية، وشبابيك تعشش فيها العناكب. ولم يكن فيه شيء سبق لها أن احتاجته على الإطلاق. ليس سوى أنصاف علب الطلاء، وألواح مختلفة الارتفاعات، وأدوات إما للاستعمال وإما جاهزة للرمي. ولم تكن فتحت الباب ونزلت الدرج إلا مرة منذ موت ريتش، لتتأكد أن المصابيح مطفأة، وأن علبة المحولات الكهربائية الرئيسية هناك، وعلى كل منها ورقة تعرف منها أيها يتحكم في أي الغرف. ولما صعدت، أحكمت إغلاق باب القبو المجاور للمطبخ، بحكم العادة، وكانت هذه العادة مثار سخرية ريتش، الذي كان يسألها ما الذي تتصور أن ينفذ من الجدران الحجرية والنوافذ القزمية ليهددهم. ومع ذلك، يبقى القبو هو البداية الأسهل، الأسهل مائة مرة من المكتب.
