كان وما زال هاجسنا هو النهضة، التي نبحث إلى اليوم عن أسسها وشروطها، ولعل تجربة الفكر الألماني، وخاصة في جانبه المثالي تدفعنا إلى إعادة النظر في القيم الفكرية والمعرفية المؤسسة للفكر الغربي ولشروط النهضة التي كانت موضوع نقاش في الساحة الفكرية العربية، بحيث ظهر اتجاهان رئيسيان: أحدهما مرتبط بالتصوّر الفرنسي الذي يدعو إلى "الثورة"، والآخر مرتبط بالتصوّر الألماني الذي يدعو إلى "الإصلاح".
إن حديثنا عن المثالية الألمانية، يدفعنا إلى البحث عن الشروط الأساسية المنتجة لهذا النمط من التفكير، ما يجعلنا نفترض أن المثالية الناشئة في ألمانيا لها علاقة وطيدة مع الحركة العلمية والأدبية التي ظهرت مع بدايات عصر النهضة، كما أن لها علاقة بالدين المسيحي وبالفلسفة اليونانية. وكل ذلك ولّد لدى الألمان خاصة والأوروبيين عامة ثقة أكبر في نفسهم وفي ملكاتهم الفطرية والمكتسبة، وثقة اكثر في الفكرة وفي المفهوم كشرطين ضروريين لفهم الواقع. ومن الممكن افتراض أن صفة المثالية الملحقة بالفكر الألماني هي صفة مضافة إليه من الخارج، ولا تعبر بالتالي عن طبيعته الحقيقية، وأن إلصاقها به يخدم أهدافاً إيديولوجية أكثر مما يخدم أهدافاً معرفية. إن هذا التناقض يجعلنا أمام إشكالية أساسية تتمثل في معرفة مضمون الفلسفة المثالية الألمانية، ومعرفة ما إذا كانت هذه الصفة تعبر حقيقة عن مضمون الفكر، أم أنها صفة ملازمة لكل فكر أيا كان مادياً أو تجريبياً أو براغماتيا ...
تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى معرفة المثالية في الفلسفة الألمانية الحديثة من خلال نماذج أساسية هي: ليبنتز Leibniz وكانط Kant وهيجل Hegel ، فمن الناحية الزمنية فإن كل من ليبنتز وكانط يندرجان بكل سهولة في نفس الفترة التاريخية، ولكن الصعوبة تطرح بالنسبة لهيجل الذي عاش نصف حياته في التاريخ الحديث، والنصف الآخر في التاريخ المعاصر. لا يمكن أن نحصر بحثنا حول هيجل في حدود سنة 1789، لأنه في الجزء الأول من حياته كان يطرح الإشكاليات بمنطق فلاسفة العصر الحديث، وفي الجزء الثاني منها بدأ في الإجابة عليها بروح ومنطق معاصرين.
