أصدرت مؤسسة الدراسات الفلسطينية في عام 1966 أول كتاب سنوي عن قضية فلسطين متناولاً جميع أبعاد القضية في سنة 1964 تلك السنة الحافلة التي شهدت عودة الحركة إلى المشهد الفلسطيني وبداية التسارع والتمهيد للانفجار الذي وقع في سنة 1967، ولقد اتبع الكتاب السنوي لعام 1965 نهج الكتاب السنوي السابق لعام 1964 من حيث مراجعة تطورات القضية في جميع مجالاتها، ووسائل المنازلة فيها. والقصد من ذلك إعطاء صورة صحيحة وكاملة عن مدى المعركة، من ناحية، وتمكين المفكر والسياسي من المقارنة بين التقدم الحاصل في الجانب العربي من حيث الوعي للمعركة والتأهب والنزال والمنازلة الفعلية، وبين التقدم الحاصل في جانب العدو والقوى التي يستند إليها أو يستدرجها أو يبتزها أو يتحالف معها أو يتواطأ وإياها في قتاله.
تؤرخ هذه السلسلة، في مجلداتها السنوية الجامعة، مجريات القضية الفلسطينية والصراع العربي-الإسرائيلي، على المستويات كافة وفي المجالات جميعاً، معتمدة منهج العرض الوصفي المواكب مع إضاءات تحليلية رابطة. يعد كل مجلد مجموعة من الأساتذة والباحثين المختصين، وتعالج السلسلة مختلف جوانب القضية والصراع ومجالاتهما السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والعسكرية. يهدف الكتاب إلى رسم معالم الصورة العامة ووضعها أمام المسؤولين والمفكرين والباحثين العرب، بما يساهم في تعزيز القدرة العربية على التوصل إلى فهم أعمق لمعطيات القضية، وتقدير أدق وأشمل للسياق السياسي الذي تتحرك فيه أطرافها المتداخلة ودينامياتها المتفاعلة.
