Book Description
"تنسكب العتمة, في قبو, ذي أسقف مقببة, ومكلسة. طاولة, من خشب البلوط, معتمة, صارت تلمع, من كثرة ما وضع الزبائن مرافقهم عليها, مغطاة بدوائر من بقايا نبيذ البونش, حيث ينعكس ضوء باهت ليوم غائم. ووفقاً للأصوات غير المرتفعة, عدد الرواد قليل. وحول الطاولة, التي تتوضع مقابل النافذة, ثمة ندماء, منهكون كما لو أنهم يتحركون, على أنغام آلة السوردنيك. منهك. ينحني على النبيذ, المنسكب, على الطاولة, ويصغي إلى, أصوات حزينة وبعيدة, إلى أغنيات المائدة. أغنيات نادرة, لا معنى لها, يتخللها صمت, يشق نسيج المحادثة, كما لو أنه جرح".
