كان الشعراني صاحب هذا الكتاب قطب الرحى في عصره، يلوذ به طلاب العلم، وطلاب الذوق، كما يلجأ إليه أصحاب الحاجات والشفاعات، وعلى باب زاويته التي أسسها كان يزدحم الأمراء والكبراء. وهو يقول للوزير الأعظم علي باشا عندما سأله عن حاجة له يقضيها له عند الخليفة، يقول له بعزة المؤمن، وإباء الصوفي: "ألك حاجة عند الله، إننا مقربون إلى حضرته". وقد تخلق الشعراني بخلق التصوف، وتأدب بأدبه، وأخذ نفسه بكل ما كتب وسطر في كتبه، فكان خلقه صورة رسالته.
وهذا الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته، ونستضيء بومضاته ألفه ليجمع فيه بين أهل النظر والاستدلال، وأهل الكشف والبيان، لذا فقد حاول فيه المطابقة بين عقائد أهل الكشف، وعقائد أهل الفكر، لأن الحذر في العقائد على هاتين الطائفتين. وقصد بيان وجه الجمع بينها ليتأيد كلام أهل كل دائرة بالأخرى.
