... ورودس هي واحدة من الجزر اليونانية الخلابة والساحرة، والتي شهدت مكان إنعقاد أول مفاوضات عربية - إسرائيلية، أما جنيف هي المحطة البارزة التي أعقبت حرب أكتوبر، تشرين أول من العام 1973، أو ما عرف بــ "صيغة هنري كيسنجر".
وكان مقرراً إصدار الطبعة الثانية من هذا الكتاب (الطبعة الأولى صدرت عن دار النهار العام 1974) أو العام الذي يليه نظراً للإقبال الذي شهدته الطبعة الأولى، إلا أن مداهمة الأحداث التي عصفت بلبنان منذ الثالث عشر في نيسان (إبريل) من العام 1975 حال دون إنجاز هذه المهمة، لكن المعطيات والدوافع التي ضمت إصدار "من رودس إلى جنيف" لا تزال متوافرة قائمة رغم إختلاف الظروف التاريخية، والتقلبات التي أصابت الصراع العربي - الإسرائيلي على مدى أربعة قرون ويزيد.
بين أيدي قرا هذا الكتاب الكثير من الحيثيات لأنه كتاب معلومات ووثائق أكثر منها كتاب تنظير في الصراع العربي الإسرائيلي وما تفرع عنه.
لقد كتب الكثير من الدراسات والمؤلفات في هذه المسألة وسيكتب، الأكثر ربما، لكننا نكتب هذه السطور والعالم العربي يعايش موجة كاسحة من الصحوات والثورات والإنتفاضات والتي اندلعت منذ العام 2010، والتي أطلق عليها التعبير الحركي "الربيع العربي"، وهي صادفت في توقيتها ذكرى مرور المائة عام تقريباً على إقرار تفاهمات سايكس - بيكو، والتي توزعت مناطق النفوذ بين بريطانيا وفرنسا.
