العتبات النصية التي كانت فيما مضى لا تحظى بأية أهمية من لدن الدراسات النقدية التي تذهب مباشرة إلى المتن النصّي الموضوعيّ، أضحت اليوم ذات أهمية كبيرة وحظيت بحتفاء أغلب النقاد المحدثين على مستويي التنظير والإجراء. ويبرز من بين هؤلاء الأديب والناقد محمد صابر عبيد في اشتغاله على عتبة العنوان في كتابه "سيمياء النصّ الموازي .. التناوع التأويلي في عتبة العنوان"، حيث يحيط المؤلف بهذا المفهوم بدءاً من نظرية العنوان وانتهاءً بمجمل المكونات البنائي للنص، يقول المؤلف: ".. العنوان الأدبي هو علامة مركزية تشتغل اشتغالاً سيميئياً هارمونياً من بداية النصّ حتى نهايته، إذ يظل فضاء العنونة المعلّق في رأس النص حاضراً ومؤثراً وموجهاً في كل مراحل القراءة، ويعدّ العنوان على هذا الأساس "المفتاح الأول لعالم الحكاية، وهو الدال والحكاية هي المدلول، وقد حدّد (جيرار جينيت) وظائف العنوان بأربع (الإغراء والإيحاء والوصف والتعيين) وهو مكمل للنص ودال عليه، وليس ضرورياً أن يحتوي أجزاء النص كلها، وإنما الإيحاءات والتعالقات بين العنوان والنصّ ...".
وفي هذا الإطار يجري المؤلف دراسة لعدد من العنوانات الشعرية والقصصية والروائية في عدد من الأعمال الإبداعية ومنها: ديوان "كنعانياذا" للشاعر عز الدين المناصرة، و "الأيقونات والكونشيرتو" للشاعر محمد القيسي، وقصة أنور محمد طاهر الموسومة بـ "قصة الرجل الذي سقط في المصيدة ولم يقاتل" ، وقصة "الآمال المعلقة" للقاص إسماعيل مصطفى، ومن الروايات يختار رواية "المصابيح الزرق" للروائي حنا مينة، و "زمن الخيول البيضاء" للروائي إبراهيم نصر الله (...) وعناوين أخرى.
