يقول حسين الشهرستاني مدوّن هذه المذكرات بأنه اختلس سويعات لمساعدة الأهل الصامدين في العراق وسجل عشرين ساعة من الأشرطة الصوتية في حوار مع صاحبه في السجن لكتابة هذه المذكرات التي سجل فيها الأسماء الصريحة والأحداث كما هي، ولكن في بعض الموارد اضطر لاستعمال الرموز بدل الأسماء خوفاً على سلامة أصحابها لاحتمال وجودهم على قيد الحياة في العراق.
وسيجد القارئ في الأحداث المذكورة بطولات رصعت جبين العراق، وتضحيات وصبراً على الأذى في جنب الله ترفع أصحابها إلى مصاف الصديقين، وكان مع كثير من الأخوة الذين أتى ذكرهم متعلماً، فقد أغنته فترة اعتقاله بتجارب وعظات لم تكن للتوفر له في حياته الجامعية ولا في مراكز البحوث النووية.
