على الرغم من رحيله، لا تغيب عن ذاكرة اللبنانيين والعرب عموماً، شخصية الأكاديمي اللبناني المعروف "كمال الصليبي". في هذا الكتاب يسرد "محمود شريح" ذكريات له حميمة عن أستاذه كمال الصليبي (1929- 2011) الذي عرفه كما يقوله في مقدمة كتابه هذا (على مدى قرابة أربعة فكان خير ناصح منذ درست عليه في ربيع 1973 وحتى آخر اسبوع في حياته رأيته فيه صوب نهاية آب (2011...).
وفي هذا الكتاب نقع على مذكرات كمال الصليبي "طائر على سنديانة (2002) تلقي أصواء جديدة على سيرته وفهمه للتأريخ في آن.. ثم جاء حواره مع الأستاذ صقر أبو فخر في كتابه "الهرطوقي الحكيم" (2012) آخر وثيقة خرج بها هذا المؤرخ الفذ على القارئ قبل وفاته بأشهر قليلة ليعلن منها بوضوح وبإيجاز خلاصة تجربته الحياتية والفكرية. أيضاً نقع في هذا الكتاب على مقابلة عقدها المؤلف مع كمال الصليبي ظهرت في صحيفة "النهار" البيروتية بتاريخ 15 أيار 1983 وكان عنوانها على صفحة أولى: كمال الصليبي: لا كتابة تاريخية قبل المعرفة الجغرافية، المتنبي شخصية مأساوية مثل مكبث والملك لير".
هذا، وقد تضمن الكتاب أيضاً تعريف بالمؤرخ كمال الصليبي ومجمل أعماله ودوره في قلب مفاهيم التاريخ وأساليب تدوينه في بلاد الشام والجزيرة العربية، ومتفرقات أخرى (صور ووثائق وحواش مهمة).
