تمثّل المؤسسات الدينيّة قيمة جوهريّة داخل المجتمع الإسرائيلي إنطلاقاً من الأهمية البالغة للدين ذاته، لذلك نجد أن تلك المؤسسات تنتشر بشكل كبير داخل المجتمع الإسرائيلي، فمنها المؤسسات الدينية التعليميّة، والدينيّة الحزبيّة، والدينيّة القضائيّة والعسكريّة.
ومن ثم، فإن هذا الكتاب، يتناول تلك المؤسسات الدينية كرؤية للدين الرسمي للدولة عندما يدخل معترك السياسة ومدى تأثير كل منهما في الآخر؛ أي: كيف يتم إعادة صياغة النظريّة الدينية لتتواءم والموقف السياسي للدولة، وفي المقابل مدى إنصياع القرار السياسي لرجال الدين، وأثر ذلك كله على المجتمع، ومن ثم على مستقبل الصراع العربي الإسرائيلي، ومن ناحية أخرى، أثره على الفكر الديني ذاته في إقترابه أو إبتعاده عن مقصده الذي أنزل من أجله.
والكتاب من هذا المنطلق يُعد محاولة لإستخلاص مبدأ عام أو معادلة شاملة تتحدّد على أساسها العلاقة بين الدين والدولة في إسرائيل، ومن ثم مستقبل الدين فيها، وعلاقة ذلك كله بالصراع العربي الإسرائيلي، وهي معادلة قد تكون صعبة في مجال الدراسات الإنسانيّة والتي تتسم بتعقّد ظواهرها، إلا أنها في الوقت ذاته ليست مستحيلة، معادلة قد تجعل من الممكن حل شفرة المجتمع الإسرائيلي الذي يسير بخطوات هلاميّة، فلا ندري أين سيضع أقدامه في الخطوة القادمة.
