يضمّ هذا الكتاب حكايات مختارةً من بين مئة وأربعين حكايةً أطلق عليها تسمية حكايات خرافية، على الرغم من أنّ قلةً منها تحكي عن خرافات الجنّ، وهي ما يطلبه الصغار الشغوفون بسماع حكايات خرافية، ولا نستطيع أن نتخيّل طفلاً يطلب قصةً فلكلوريةً. وقد أعيدت كتابة بعض الحكايات الخرافية، ولاسيما تلك التي تعتمد اللهجة المحلية؛ بما فيها اللهجة الاسكتلندية ليفهمها الأطفال واليافعون أيضاً، فكان لابدّ من التخفيف من الأسلوبية الجوفاء وإعادة صياغتها بأسلوب أبسط، وأبقي على بعض الألفاظ السوقية، فالأطفال يحبّذون الزّخم الدراميّ الذي توحي به، كما هو حال الأكبر منهم سناً
