كما سألت نفسي في بحث "الإيقاع الصوتي في شعر شوقي" لماذا شوقي والشعراء كثيرون؟! أطرح السؤال نفسه هنا مع المتنبي.
وأحسب أن الإجابة عنه أسهل فالمتنبي هو المتنبي وكفى "شاعر العربية والعروبة، فارس الكلم، قائد الحكمة ، صاحب اللواء ،الذي جسد ذاته فنانا عربيا ثائرا، جمع بين عمق الفكرة وصفاء العبارة. وقد قسمت حياته إلى أطوار فنية ثلاثة ، رأيت فيها معالم بارزة وسمات واضحة ألقت بظلها على فنه ومن الافضل أن تدرس حياته الفنية من خلالها..
ومن ثم كان لزاما ان أعيد ترتيب ديوان المتنبي حسب هذه الأطوار الثلاثة ولو اختلف المر مع ترتيب المتنبي نفيه لديوانه..
ومن الطبيعي وأنا أدرس "الصورة التشبيهية" ان أعرض لحياة فن التشبيه في التراث.
وفي درس المجاز سرت على نفس الدرب أبحث عن المجاز في التراث ثم انتقل إلى المجاز عند المتنبي "مفردات وتشكيلاته" ثم حللت الصورة المجازية في قصيدة "واحر قلباه ممن قلبه شبم" في مدح سيف الدولة. ثم انتقلت إلى ما قاله النقاد . وكذا فعلت هنا مع الكناية والتعريض.
