قبل الإبحار كان اسمى الحقيقى "إليان هاشم" وفى غباب الضباب، على دروب سفرى اخترت له قناعا يشبهنى ليصير "ليلى كوركيس"
ليلى ل إليان وكوركيس لإسم أخ غيبته الحرب وسحلت قلبى معه مثلما رمد الموت جسده.. فعسى ديواني الأول هذا أن يكون طفلاً يخلد ذكراه وحزناً لم أعرف كيف أذرف دمعه.
من بيروت إلى نينوى "سارت ليلى على طرقات محفوفة بالحروب وسياساتها الشنعاء.. تسير وفى حقيبتها مدائن تحترق كالشعر فى المحافل، على ضفاف السياسة، فى الأساطير ونتوءات ملاحمها الصاخبة والمغيبة فى القرارات وحسابات الدول الكبرى وأحياناً الصغرى. "بيروت" غرفت سبع مرات ولم تمت.. ونينوى حملت المجد وأثم التارخ آلاف المرات ولم ترحل من كتبنا.. فهل نبقى جرحاً مفتوحاً على أديم الشواطئ ورمال الصحراء؟!
