هذا الكتاب محاولة نظرية تطبيقية للغوص في كنه العملية الترجمية ومواصلة التفكير والتأطير فيما يتعلق بالمراجعة، كخطوة لازمة لضبط النوعية وتلافي الخطأ وتجويد النص وتفصيحه وتبيينه؛ وقد اعتمد في ذلك، في جملة أمور، على مبادئ الكتابة وأصولها كوسيلة لبلوغ أرقى مراتب البيان، وتمّ الرجوع إلى ما كتب عن المراجعة على قلّته.
ومن ناحية أخرى، يُتَنَاول موضوع المصطلح من جديد من الزاوية المفهومية والحاسوبية، مع تحديد شروط العمل المصطلحي المستحبّ والصحيح والتأكيد على دور المصطلحيات، أي علم المصطلح، في الترجمة خصوصاً والتعريب عموماً، بإعتباره غاية المرام لنقل العلوم والمعارف وإستيعابها عند العرب.
كما أن الكتاب يتطرق إلى مسألتي الهواية والإحتراف في الترجمة وإلى مدى ضرورة تكوين المترجم وتدريبه ولزوم تدريس النظريات له والإطلاع عليها والجمع بين المدارسة والممارسة، ويعطي، علاوة على ذلك، نبذة عن مفعول النوعية عبر التاريخ، بجودتها ورداءتها، في التفاعل بين الثقافة العربية وروافدها، من يونانية وسريانية وغيرهما.
ويتضمّن تشكيلة واسعة من النصوص مع ترجماتها وتعليقات عليها، ومنها نماذج إمتحان الأمم المتحدة لتوظيف المترجمين العرب؛ إنه تكملة لكتب المؤلف في مضمار الترجمة، وهو أيضاً من ثمرات التدريس في الجامعة وتجسيد للخبرة الطويلة المكتسبة في المنظومة الدولية، ويهدف، على غرار سابقاته، إلى إستغلال التراث العربي الغزير مع متابعة المستجدات وإستشراف المستقبل.
