لم يكن الرندي في الحقيقة شخصية مغمورة في زمانه بل كان شاعراً بارزاً، متعدد جوانب المعرفة والثقافة والنشاط، فقد عرف عنه عنايته، وتأليفه في علم الفقه والغرائض وغيرها من العلوم الشرعية بالإضافة إلى جوانب أدبية مختلفة... وكان الشعر أحد جوانب تلك الشخصية التي جددت ذكريات القرون الخالية من مشاهير الشعراء الأندلسيين البارزين. وقد اشتهر بقصيدة رثي بها الأندلس، أو هو رثى المدن والبلدان والحصون والمناطق التي سقطت لزمانه، وهي قصيدة مؤثرة مشجية، اندفع فيها الشاعر مع حماسته الوطنية والدينية، فبكى ما ضاع من ديار قومه واستنهض الهمم لاستردادها...
وفي هذا الكتاب دراسة دونها "الدكتور محمد رضوان الداية" متحدثاً عن الرندي الأديب والشاعر والناقد، وهدفه إجلاء بعض الغموض الذي أحاط به عند المعاصرين، ودراسة جوانبه تلك دراسة تبين أثره، ومكانته في الحركة الأدبية في الأندلس.
