سئل لوركا يوماً عن سقوط الحكم العربي لغرناطة في عام 1492 ميلادية. فأجاب قائلاً: لقد كان يوماً أسود، رغم أنهم يذكرون لنا عكس ذلك في المدرسة، لقد ضاعت حضارة مدهشة، وشعر، وفلك، ومعمار، ورقة لا نظير لها في العالم، وحلت محلها مدينة فقيرة، خانعة، تزخر بطالبي الصدقات، وحيث توجد الآن أسوأ طبقة برجوازية في أسبانيا، وتعد هذه العبارات أصدق دليل على مدى تأثر الشاعر الفنان "فديريكو غرسيه لوركا" بمسقط رأسه وبيئته الغرناطية التي نشأ في أحضانها، بكل ما تنبض فيها من أجواء عربية وأندلسية بقيت آثارها على مر القرون، ولقد استبانت تلك الأجواء في شعره وفي مسرحياته التي أستلهم فيها الروح الشعبية في قرى الأندلس ومدته.. ومن غريب الطالع أن يرتبط موت الشاعر في عام 1936 باسم عربي كذلك، إذ أن مصرعه الفاجع قد وقع في بقعة لاتزال تعرف بأسمها العربي وهو "عين الدمعة" بقرية "فرنار" من أرباض غرناطة. وهكذا كان مولد الشاعر وموته في تلك المدينة الأندلسية التي ارتبطت باسمه وأعماله. غرناطة تلك المدينة الحبيبة إلى قلب كل عربي.
