يستتبع الخوض في فكرة المكان - وهو من مندرجات السماع الطبيعي - بحث حول رزمة كاملة من المفاهيم والأدوات الشائكة والتي تتعلق بمفهوم الحركة والحيز والزمن والملاء والخلاء، مضافاً إلى مفهوم الجسم الطبيعي والهندسي والشكل والأبعاد والجهات والتناهي، كما تتطلب المعالجة إستدعاء لآليات المنطق والفيزياء وعلاقة العلم بالفلسفة.

بل إن الشيرازي يعنونه بوضوح كمبحث "في النظر المختص بعلم المعاد"، وبذلك يتخذ البحث الطبيعي في فلسفة الإسلاميين المتأخرين طابعاً توظيفياً، فيبحث في تقسيم الجسم إلى بسيط ومركب، وتقسيم البسيط إلى فلكي وأرضي، سعياً إلى التمهيد للسير الفلسفي من عالم الطبيعة إلى عالم ما وراء الطبيعة.
