كما أن لكل حدث كبير في التاريخ جوانبه ومستوياته المتعددة، فقد كان لأزمة الخليج العربي وجوهاً متعددة لعلّ من أبرزها الطابع العسكري الذي تجلّت فيه تلك الأزمة.
ورغم أن العديد من وقائع الحرب وخلفياتها ما يزال طيّ الكتمان، إلاّ ان هذا الكتاب يقدِّم لنا معلومات غنية من الآلة الحربية التي استخدمت في هذه الحرب والتي كان الكثير منها أدخل في باب الأسرار، كما يكشف لنا خفايا الخطط الحربية والمعارك الجوية والبرية والبحرية التي شهدتها ساحة الحرب.
هكذا نتعرّف على خفايا ترسانة أسلحة "حرب النجوم" التي كانت الولايات المتحدة تعدّها لمواجهة القطب السوفياتي وحلفائه، لكنها استخدمت في إطار عمليات "عاصفة الصحراء".
وفي هذا السياق أيضاً نتعرّف على دور أجهزة التجسس الفضائية - التي كان دورها كما يبدو حاسماً في تحديد مصائر الحرب - كالأقمار الصناعية التي كانت المصدر الأول لمعلومات قوات التحالف عن العراق، وعلى دور المعدات الألكترونية التي استخدمت في الساعات التي سبقت الحرب مباشرة للتعمية والتشويش على الدفاعات الجوية وشبكات الإتصال والرادار التي يمتلكها الجيش العراقي.
لقد وضعت حرب الخليج حداً لغالبية التطورات التقليدية عن علم الحرب وآليات القتال وتكوين الجيوش وأشكال المواجهة بين الأطراف المتحاربة على أرض المعركة، ولعلّ هذا الكتاب يسمح لنا بتكوين تصور أكثر مقاربة من الواقع لما كانت عليه حرب الخليج، وبالتعرّف على مفاهيم وتقنيات الحرب الحديثة وما ستكون عليه الحروب المقبلة.
