تحتوي مرتفعات ويذرينج على منزلين فقط، وهي مكان جميل جداً ومنعزل في الريف الانجليزي، يقطن في المنزل الأول عائلة إيرنشو (السيد والسيدة إيرنشو، وولداهما كاثرين وهندلي ). وفي المنزل الثاني كانت تقطنه عائلة لينتون، وتتألف من (السيد والسيدة لينتون، وولديهما ادغار وإيزابيل )، تبدأ الأحداث حين يسافر السيد ايرنشو إلى عمل في المدينة، ويجد طفلاً صغيراً جائعاً يتيماً ومتشرداً في الطرقات، فيصطحبه إلى المنزل ليتبناه، وحين توفي السيد ايرنشو، تغيرت كلَّ معادلات البيت. أحداث رائعة لا مجال فيها للصدفة أبداً ، ستتابعها بشغف.
