وشرب كوب ماء بارد دون توقع أن يقطع حضوري تلك الجلبة...
لكن شيئاً فعل ذلك... ويا لحسن الحظ!...
حيث ضُرب جرس الباب، وجاء الجار الصيني، مقطّب الجبين، مظهراً غضباً كبيراً...
ردد بالإنجليزية السليمة:
"عليك أن توقف هذا الإزعاج... سوف أشكوك للشرطة!"...
حدج أبي بنظرة غاضبة، ثم خرج.
هدأت الضجة فور خروجه، لم نعد في الكويت لتمتص الجدران الضجيج، البيوت في "لندن" تسرب الأصوات، ويُعد إزعاج الجيران معضلة كبيرة.
بعد ذلك حاولت أمي أن تقترب مني لكني ابتعدت مشمئزاً، لم أعد أحب ذلك، أشم في إقترابها رائحة ضعفها، صمتها، إنكسارها، قلة حيلتها، ورائحة مرضها أيضاً!...
عدت لغرفتي، أغلقت الباب عليّ، تكوّرت تحت الدثار، فعلت شيئاً سيئاً، لقد بكيت!...
