حصل على دبلوم الدراسات العليا في اللغة العربية وآدابها من كلية الآداب والعلوم الإنسانية بفاس سنة 1987.
كما أحرز على دكتوراه الدولة في الآداب من جامعة السوربون بباريس سنة 1990.
يشتغل أستاذا جامعيا.
بدأ أحمد المديني النشر سنة 1967 بجريدة العلم.
التحق باتحاد كتاب المغرب سنة 1972.
يتوزع إنتاجه بين القصة القصيرة، الشعر، النقد الأدبي والترجمة.
وقد نشر أعماله بعدة صحف ومجلات: العلم، المحرر، الاتحاد الاشتراكي، النهار (لبنان)، السفير (لبنان)، الثورة، الجمهورية (العراق)، أنفاس، آفاق أقلام، الآداب، الطريق، تحولات، كتابات معاصرة، الكرمل،

مذ وقعتُ في شَرَك الوهم، وأنا أؤلف كلماتي من أبجدية الجسد. جسدي المترعرعُ بين الرمضاء والنار، المنضَّد بين المطرقة والسندان. صُوري تتوالدُ من إصراري على نبذ عِشْرةِ السكينة الخرساء، لزرْع فِتن مُفتِنةٍ في وجه سادة بُلهاء، سيّان، أو سُفهاء. لا يقِلُّ عنهم بشرٌ سمجٌ، سقيمُ الروح، يتناسل عقيما، في التكرار. صُوري فائقةُ الذهول. لا أحتاج لرسمها، هي الصحو والضوء وقت الأفول. يكفي خط ٌّغائرٌ في جدار حائل اللون لإعلان سُلالة القِدم. ويدٌ تُلوِّحُ كالشراع في مهبِّ عمرنا العاتي برجفة الرحيل. أما الشوق، أما اللهفة، أما الحب، أم" البكاء على صدر الحبيب"؛ ماذا يمكن أن يقال عن هذه المباهج، وكيف؟ لا تتّسع لها أيّ لغة، فتبقى، كما نحن اليوم، أرواحا شاردة!"
