ولد سنة 1949 بمدينة برشيد.
حصل على دبلوم الدراسات العليا في اللغة العربية وآدابها من كلية الآداب والعلوم الإنسانية بفاس سنة 1987.
كما أحرز على دكتوراه الدولة في الآداب من جامعة السوربون بباريس سنة 1990.
يشتغل أستاذا جامعيا.
بدأ أحمد المديني النشر سنة 1967 بجريدة العلم.
التحق باتحاد كتاب المغرب سنة 1972.
يتوزع إنتاجه بين القصة القصيرة، الشعر، النقد الأدبي والترجمة.
وقد نشر أعماله بعدة صحف ومجلات: العلم، المحرر، الاتحاد الاشتراكي، النهار (لبنان)، السفير (لبنان)، الثورة، الجمهورية (العراق)، أنفاس، آفاق أقلام، الآداب، الطريق، تحولات، كتابات معاصرة، الكرمل،

هذه يوميات أديب روائي وناقد ورحالة من المغرب دونها على إثر ثلاث زيارات قام بها إلى الجزء المحرر من فلسطين والواقع تحت إدارة السلطة الفلسطينية، وهي رحلات ربيعية قام بها صاحبها في نيسان / إبريل من الأعوام 4102، 6102، 7102.
تحفل هذه اليوميات بإنطباعات وملاحظات وصور شيقة وأخرى بالغة الأهمية لكونها صادرة عن شخصية أدبية من المغرب العربي الذي أودع القدس حياً يحمل اسم المغاربة، ولكونها تفصح عن مكبوت نفس عربية تلظت لعقود بآلام الفقد العربي لبلاد بأكملها تحت الإحتلال الإسرائيلي، ولنا أن تتخيل ما تعنيه القدس والديار المقدسة للعرب والمسلمين مغاربة ومشارقة، فكيف بها بالنسبة إلى أديب طالما ميزت لديه تلك النزعة القومية ببعدها الإنساني.
يعترف الكاتب أن بعض هدفه من هذه اليوميات هو تظهير صورة ما كان لها أن تظهر أولاً أن فيض له القيام بهذا السفر.
بلغة أدبية بسيطة وعميقة يصطاد الرحالة الصور واللمحات يسجل الإنطباعات عن المكان وأهله، يكتب دهشته لا من غرابة الصور ولكن من شدة إلفتها، وإلفة جمالها المغرّب والمستباح، ولكن أيضاً بما بقي من المكان وإنسانه مرتبطاً بتاريخه إلى حدود تتداخل فيها قسوة الفكرة باللحم الحي.
"ما لا أدونّه من أي رحلة، اعتبر لم يحدث، بهذه الكلمات يجعل الكاتب من الكتابة قبضاً على الحقيقة الهاربة والزمن الهارب، ويجعل من النص الرحلي وثيقة وسردية لا وجود لموضوعها من دون وجودها، وبذلك يجعل الكاتب من لحظة السفر لحظة شعرية بامتياز.
ولهذه الإعتبارات وغيرها مما يمنحه هذا الكتاب استحق الكاتب جائزة ابن بطوطة للرحلة المعاصرة.
