ويمكن فهم إمكانات النمو وذلك من خلال الدراسة التي يقدمها المؤلف في هذا الكتاب حيث يعرض لتاريخ القارة وجغرافيتها الطبيعية، وشعوبها وأساليب حياتهم وتبين التغيرات في الأنماط الجغرافية التي برزت خلال السنين الأخيرة، أو الأنماط الجغرافية للتغير الاقتصادي الحديث والجاري. هذا في القسم الأول من الكتاب، وأما القسم الثاني منه فقد تناول دراسة دولاً مختارة من مختلف أقاليمها الطبيعية.
