هذا الكتاب هام للغاية، ليس لأن مؤلفه سوري قديم، وفيثاغورثي كبير، يترجم ولأول مرة إلى اللغة العربية، وحسب؛ بل لأن الكتاب أيضاً سيرة حياة أشهر مؤسسي الفكر الفلسفي، وقد ظل تأثيره يتنامى في العالم إلى يومنا هذا، وعنه قال "ايمبيدوكليس: كان يعيش هناك في وسطهم، حنكته المعرفية غير محدودة، وكان يملك كنزاً ثميناً من الأفكار السامية الأصلية وكان عقله مرهفاً في مختلف فنون الحكمة لأنه سرعان ما ركزه قواه على المعرفة، وتأمل في كل ما هو موجود وما كان موجوداً، دون عناء، متنبئاً نيابة عن عشر أو عشرين جيلاً من البشر، فالفيثاغورثية إلى جانب كونها ديانة ومنبت ديانات فيما بعد، هي طريقة في التفلسف والعلم والتربية الجمالية وكانت سوريا موطنها الأول.
فهذا الكتاب، بطله "فيثاغورث" الديني، الحكيم، الفيلسوف، المعلم.. كتبه فيلسوف كبير، يفصل بينه وبين "فيثاغورث" حوالي 650 سنة؛ يتحدث فيه عن ولادته وحياته، وتعاليمه، ويختلط فيه الأسطوري بالواقعي وبإسلوب قص حكائي إخباري ممتع وسلس، أراد أن يعرف من هو "الفيثاغورثي"، وقسمه يمليخا إلى ستة وثلاثين فصلاً، ومئتين وسبعة وستين مقطعاً، وفي المقطع الأخير ذكر أسماء أعلام الفيثاغورثيين في عصره من الرجال والنساء.
