مهما قيل عن أحداث 19-21آب/1991 فإن الكلام لن يكون دقيقاً ولن يكشف حقيقة ذلك الانقلاب الذي قاده الإنقلابيون ضد غورباتشوف. وفي هذا الكتاب يكشف "ميخائيل غورباتشوف" عن حقيقة ما جرى وعن أبعاد هذا الانقلاب وهو يتناول تفاصيل ما جرى بدءاً من عملية التحضير وحتى الساعات الأخيرة كما قدم في هذا الكتاب الكثير من الوثائق الهامة التي تؤكد وجهة نظره.
ويؤكد غورباتشوف أن عملية الانقلاب كانت متوقعة ولم تكن مفاجئة له لأن الأزمة التي كانت تعاني منها البلاد والتغييرات الجذرية التي طالت بنية النظام القديم كانت مؤلمة وقاسية على الكثيرين لذا حاول الإنقلابيون العودة بالبلد إلى السلطة السابقة. ويستلخص غورباتشوف مجموعة دروس من هذا الانقلاب إذ يرى أن البيروستويكا تحّرت الاختلاف العميق الذي يحكم المجتمع بخصوص ما يجب أن يكون عليه الأوضاع. ويشير إلى أن الدرس الأكبر الذي يجب على الجميع تعلمه هو الإسراع بالتقدم على طريق التحولات الديمقراطية. كتاب قد لا يكشف جميع جوانب الحقيقة إلا أنه سيكشف حقيقة ما جرى على الجانب الذي كان غورباتشوف يقف فيه.
في هذا الكتاب يتناول ميخائيل غورباتشوف أحداث هذا الانقلاب العسكري الذي قام ضده في تاريخ 19 آب 1991، ويلقي الضوء على أسرار هذا الحدث الذي في واقع الأمر قد أطاح به نهائياً رغم أنه عاد إلى موقع السلطة...
