يدل عنوان هذا الكتاب على مضمونه، فهو سجل دقيق لتاريخ الحركة الإنقلابية التي شهدها الوطن السوري في اليوم الرابع عشر من شهر آب (أغسطس) عام 1949 على يد قائد لواء المشاه الأول الزعيم سامي الحناوي ومن ورائه جيشه السوري، (وهو الإنقلاب العسكري السوري الثاني).
لقد توخى المؤلف في كتابه ومن خلال (105) فقرات ووقائع الحديث عن أغلب تفاصيل الإنقلاب والفترات الخطيرة فيه، لا سيما الأعمال - والبلاغات العسكرية والبيانات السياسية.
كما تم الحديث عن العلاقات السورية العربية بعد الإنقلاب مثل العلاقة مع الجمهورية اللبنانية والمملكة العراقية والمملكة العربية السعودية والمملكة المصرية والتي قامت بها القيادة السياسية المدنية والتي سلمها الزعيم سامي الحناوي سلطتها بعد يوم واحد من الإنقلاب.
كما تمت الإستعانة بآراء شخصيات سياسية ذات ميول متعددة ومتنوعة وصاحبة آراء في الزعيم سامي الحناوي وإنقلابه في 1949/8/14.
ولقد اعتمد المؤلف على مذكرات لشخصيات سياسية وعسكرية وفكرية متعددة التوجهات والميول والإنتماءات السياسية.
