في أوضاع تتصف بتفجّر العنصريات، يدعو هذا الكتاب إلى إعادة التفكير في رهاب الإسلام (الإسلاموفوبيا) من زاوية القرابة بينه وبين رهاب اليهودية. لأننا لا نستطيع مقاربة رهاب الإسلام الحالي مقاربة حقيقية، من دون المرور، ولو مواربة، بمعاداة السامية، فهو (أي رهاب الإسلام) ليس سوى انمساخ متأخر لها وتحوّل وراثي استعماري.
رهاب الإسلام موجود بشكل كلي في الخطاب العام وفي سياسات الدول، وقد اشتد بسبب الجرائم الفعلية التي اقترفتها باسم الإسلام حفنة من الجماعات والمنظمات المرتبطة ارتباطًا مباشرًا أو غير مباشر بدول تحركها.
يبدو رهاب الإسلام، مثله مثل توأمه، رهاب اليهودية، الشكل الجديد للوباء العنصري ولانتعاش فيروس اجتماعي معروفة خطورته، وهو ينشط حاليًا على مستوى عالمي.
وليس الأمر هنا وضع معادلة بين وضعية المسلمين اليوم ووضعية اليهود في الأمس، وإنما مراقبة نوعين من العنصرية يشتغلان بطريقة متماثلة على الرغم من اختلافاتهما، وهما يهددان العيش المشترك في فرنسا.
