يتناول هذا الكتاب رحلات المستكشفين الأوربيين في الجزيرة العربية, لأن نصوص رحلات الأوروبيين إلى بلادنا العربية, ومنها الجزيرة العربية, تعد مصدراً ثميناً وواسعاً لدراسة أحوال هذه البلاد في القرون الماضية. وقد استطاع المؤلف أن يصف هذه البلاد ومن فيها وصفاً رائعاً بعبارات كلها قوة ومتانة حيث قام بوصف الإمام فيصل بقوله: رأيت الإمام فيصل جالساً في صدر المجلس على سجادة صغيرة بديعة, متكئاً إلى وسادة سميكة, وكان أصغر أبنائه عبد الرحمن يجلس بالقرب منه. عندما تقدمت إليه نهض وصافحني وربت على كامل كفي بتؤدةٍ كان محيّاه أخاذاً تام التقاطيع وينم عن الهدوء ورباطة الجأش والصرامة والحلم والوقار. كان يبدو فوق السبعين من عمره, ويرتدي ثياباً فخمة تنمّ عن ذوق رفيع, ويعتمر ما فوق الكفيّة العربية بعمامة مكورة من قماش الكشمير الأخضر, صوته رخيم وكلماته رزينة ومتزنة. إنه بالإجمال رجل وقور ودمث, لكنك تلمح في قسماته طيف شدة وبأس بالغين عندما يلزم الأمر.
