والحمام بشكل عام طير وديع ومسالم وهو غصن الزيتون علامتا السلام والوئام في كل أنحاء العالم. ولذا فإنني وضعت هذا الكتاب وبالتحديد عن نوع مهم من أنواع هذه الطيور الجميلة ألا وهو حمام الزاجل الذي لعب دوراً كبيراً في حياة الإنسان منذ أقدم العصور في كل المجالات الحربية والاقتصادية والتجارية والإعلامية والصحية... الخ.
وحاولت في هذا الموضوع أن الم وأجمع كل ما يتعلق به قديماً وحديثاً وحسب ما توفرت لي المراجع والمصادر في هذا الشأن.
وتناولت في كتابي هذا سبعة فصول كانت على التوالي حمام الزاجل في التاريخ وهذا الحمام في العصر الحديث وسر مقدرة حمام الزاجل على معرفة طريقه وعلاقة هذا الحمام بالأنواع الأخرى من رتبته ومنافع الحمام بشكل عام وأضراره وكان الفصل الأوسع والأكثر أهمية السادس الذي تناولت فيه استخدام حمام الزاجل في الحروب منذ القديم ولا سيما الفترة الإسلامية بمختلف عصورها. ثم ختمت الكتاب بطرائف من عالم الحمام وبالذات الزاجل منه.
