أصل هذا الكتاب ورقة علمية بعنوان (بداية تعليم البنات في عهد الملك سعود: الموقف الاجتماعي ومنهج الدولة في التعامل معه)، تم تقديمها في ندوة (تاريخ الملك سعود بن عبد العزيز آل سعود). وهذا الكتاب دراسة لمحاولة استطلاع الجانب الاجتماعي في تلك المرحلة من مراحل المجتمع السعودي، وكذا رصد كيفية تعامل المجتمع السعودي آنذاك مع صدور الأمر الملكي؛ إيذاناً بالبداية للانطلاق الرسمي للتعليم النظامي للفتاة، كما تسعى هذه الدراسة لتبيان واقع ردود الأفعال الاعتراضية على افتتاح المدارس النظامية للبنات، ثم التعرف على نوعية التعامل الرسمي من قبل الدولة تجاه الاعتراض. وجاءت هذه الدراسة في خمسة أقسام على النحو التالي: أولاً: مقدمات أساسية: التغير والتغيير، تعليم المرأة في الإسلام، تعليم المرأة في العالم العربي، تعليم المرأة في الدولة السعودية الثانية. ثانياً: خصائص المجتمع السعودي. ثالثاً: تعليم المرأة في بداية الدولة السعودية الثالثة: مرحلة الكتاتيب، مرحلة المدارس شبه النظامية. رابعاً: افتتاح مدارس تعليم البنات وموقف المعارضين لها. خامساً: تعامل الدولة مع معارضي افتتاح مدارس تعليم البنات.
