كانت سميرة عزتم متجهة نحو فلسطين عندما ماتت على الحدود، كانت فلسطين هي حلمها وأغنيتها وهي أملها ومعشوقتها، وكانت وهي تقود سيارتها بنفسها تستمع إلى ترتيل القرآن الكريم، كعادتها، فالإسلام حضارتها-كما كانت تقول-وهي النصرانية الغسانية. ولم تمت سميرة بداء أو مرض فقد ماتت نتيجة جرح الأرض النازف من خاصرتها، وماتت لأنها عربية حقيقية تحمل في قلبها هموم الأمة كلها تعبها الشخصي هو حلمها الكبير في أن ترى أمتها منتصرة، وأن ترى الوحدة حقيقة، والإنسان حراً والظلم مرفوعاً، والأرض خضراء، والليل قد أزاح سدوله القاتمة عن رؤوسنا وقلوبنا..
