يضم كتاب (صانع الظلال) للمؤلفة جلنار زين، قُرابة مئة قصة، تتنقل بها جلنار بين الوصف المباشر الموجز الواضح والخفي الذي يتحمل مئات التأويلات.
قصص قصيرة جداً أو ما بات يعرف باسم ق. ق. ج. تعرضت للنقد في بداية بروزها مع أنها أدب حديث قديم، يلفت إبراهيم اسحق الانتباه إلى أن الكتاب الشباب الذين بدأوا يكتبون هذا النوع من القصص القصيرة جدا «ليسوا هم الأوائل في الغواية بهذا النوع من الحكمة.. هنالك مماثلة تركها الفيلسوف الصيني لاو تزو منذ القرن الثالث قبل الميلاد. وجاء من قبله ومن بعده طابور طويل من أهل الحكمة وأهل التدبر في الإنسان والحياة وما يأتلف وما يختلف وما ينجلي وما يغمق».
جلنار مصابة بشغف لكتابة القصص القصيرة جداً وقد ركزت بتقدم القصص الواقعية المعبرة عن معضلات الإنسان العربي اجتماعياً وسياسياً، بقالب تسجيلي لمدى الألم المتمثل بالمراة والطفل الضحية والسلطة الطاغية. من مناخات المجموعة: أمومة قال لها: أشعر بالبرد يا أمي! تبسّمت واعدةً إياه بما يدفّئه في زيارتها التالية.. بعد أسبوع، عادت إليه تحمل كنزةً صوفية حاكتها بيديها.. ألبستها لشاهد قبره، ومضتْ. مجنونة أتعبَتْهُ في مطاردتها من مكان إلى آخر.. كم كان جادّاً في الإمساك بها.. آلمه الصداع المستمر الذي أصاب رأسه بسببها. قرّر أن يكمن لها في إحدى تلافيف دماغه.. واصطادها أخيراً.. يا لها من «فكرةٍ» مجنونة!
