هذه المجموعة القصصي واحدة من المطمورات الثقافية الجميلة التي تنمّ عن إبداع امرأة مدهشة عاشت قلقة ومتوترة؛ فأبدعت في أدبها أكثر مما أبدعت في حياتها القصيرة أو في بقائها القصير.
كتبت "سميرة عزام" نصوص هذه المجموعة الستة عشر بين سنة 1945 وكانون الثاني 1950. ولم يقبض لها أن تنشر في أي صحيفة أو مجلة، ومن الصعب اعتبار جميع هذه النصوص قصصاً قصيرة، فبعضها ينتمي إلى ضرب من التعبير الوجداني يقترب من البوح ويبتعد عن الطريقة الفنية في كتابة القصة.
لكن ثمة عشر نصوص تنتمي إلى القصة القصيرة فعلاً وفي هذه المجمعة قصة كتبتها "سميرة عزام" عن لاجئ فلسطيني دخل لبنان وقد جاءت هذه القصة خلافاً لما هو شائع عن المؤلفة أنها لم تكتب أو تنشر أي قصة عن مأساة اللجوء إلى لبنان. كما ضمت مجموعتها قصة أخرى رشيقة وذات دلالة من وحي إقامتها في العراق عن يهود بغداد الذين راحوا يتخلون عن جنسياتهم العراقية ويغادرون إلى فلسطين. غير أن ثمة ما يثير الدهشة، حقاً، في هذه المجموعة، فهي تحتوي نصاً شعرياً بعنوان "عفواً أيتها الأجراس" كتبته المؤلفة في 7/1/1948. إن هذا النص يستعير من الشعر لغته وإيماءاته وومضه، ويتفلت من القافية والشكل التقليدي للقصيدة ذات المصرعين. إن هذا الشكل من التعبير ليس قصيدة شعر متكاملة الملامح، بل هو طريقة في البوح ربما جاءت عفو الخاطر وإن أومضت بشاعرية كامنة وبموهبة مخبوءة وبلغة وثابة متوترة.
