ابن الأعرابي (150 - 231 هـ = 767 - 845 م)
محمد بن زياد، المعروف بابن الأعرابي، أبو عبد الله: راوية، ناسب، علامة باللغة.
من أهل الكوفة. كان أحول.
أبوه مولى للعباس بن محمد بن علي الهاشمي (المتقدمة ترجمته) قال ثعلب: شاهدت مجلس ابن الأعرابي وكان يحضره زهاء مئة إنسان، كان يسأل ويقرأ عليه، فيجيب من غير كتاب، ولزمته بضع عشرة سنة ما رأيت بيده كتابا قط، ولقد أملى على الناس ما يحمل على أجمال، ولم ير أحد في علم الشعر أغزر منه.
وهو ربيب المفضل بن محمد صاحب المفضليات.
مات بسامراء.
له تصانيف كثيرة، منها (أسماء الخيل وفرسانها - خ) و (تاريخ القبائل) و (النوادر - خ) في الأدب و (تفسير الأمثال) و (شعر الأخطل - ط) و (معاني الشعر) و (الأنواء) رسالة، و (البئر - ط) رسالة، و (الفاضل - خ) أدب، و (أبيات المعاني - خ) .

أعز مكان فى الدنا سرج سابح.. وخير صديق فى الزمان كتاب، هكذا أخبرنا شاعر العرب" المتنبي".. وهكذا ادرك العرب تلك الحقيقة ووعوها جيداً فكانت لها مكانة عزيزة فى حياتهم وأشعارهم وأيضاً كتبهم، حيث عنوا بأسماء أنسابها وسلالاتها، ووضعوا فيها المؤلفات والأشعار التى تبين تلك المكانة.. فكانت شريكهم ومعينهم فى الصحارى والفيافى والحروب والغزوات، وقد أكد الإسلام على هذه المكانة فالخير مربوط بنواصيها، وقد أوصانا الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم بها خيراً حين قال عليه الصلاة والسلام" ارتبطوا هذه الخيل فإنها دعوة أبيكم إسماعيل، وكانت وحوشاً فدعا ربه فسخرها له" وفى هذا المقام نجد ما كتبه "أبو عبد الله محمد بن زياد الأعرابي وجمعه عن أسماء خيل العرب وفرسانها، وقد صنفها وفقاً لأصحابها كخيل قريش وبنى هاشم والأنصار.. وروى ما قيل فى كل منها من أشعار.. وهو فى كافة رواياته يذكر الرواة واحداً تلو الآخر.
