موضوع "دولة الظاهر برقوق وابنه فى مصر" يمثل جانا هاما فى تاريخنا القومى وحضارتنا فى عصر المماليك، ذلك أن الظاهر برقوق قد وضع لدولته سياسة محددة، أتاحت له التصدى للمغول والصليبيين، كما حفظت لدولته زعامة العالم الإسلامي، مع دعم صداقتها فى الوقت نفسه مع الدول التى لها معها مصالح أدبية أو مادية فى أوربا وآسيا وإفريقيا، وفضلا عن ذلك فقد نتج عن السياسة التى انتهجها برقوق فى بناء دولته توطيد دعائم الحكم فيها، كما مكنته أيضاً من إنقاذ مصر وسورية من عوامل الضعف التى تعرضت لها من الداخل والخارج فى أواخر دولة المماليك الولى، زمن أولاد الناصر محمد بن قلاوون وأحفاده، وهو الأمر الذى جعل لدولة السلطان برقوق شخصيتها ونفوذها فى الدخل والخارج. وقد اشتمل البحث على سبعة أبواب. تناولت كافة الأوجه من حياة سياسية والعلاقات الخارجية والنظم الأدارية والحياة الإقتصادية، وحالة الجيش والبحرية.. وكذلك النظرة إلى المؤسسات التعليمية.
