لسنوات طوال، ظل الدكتور كمال الجنزوري صامتًا لا يُدلي بحديث، ولا يظهر في أيّ لقاءات تلفزيونية، مفضلًا أن يساعد في صمت كل من يقصده للمشورة في أمور الوطن. سنوات عديدة من بعدها تغير حال مصر، فقرر حينها أن يكتب مذكراته، كي يلقي الضوء على مشوار طويل من العمل والكفاح مهد له الطريق من طفولة بقرية صغيرة إلى إنجازات متوالية في رئاسة الوزراء. في هذا الجزء الأول من شهادته الشخصية، يستعرض الدكتور كمال الجنزوري مختلف محطات حياته، بدءًا بطفولته في القرية، عطفًا على دراسته وحصوله على شهادة الدكتوراه من أمريكا، ثم الوظائف التي تقلدها، وانتهاءً بوصوله إلى رئاسة الوزراء "1996-1999" وما تبع ذلك من مسئوليات ومهام، وما واجهه من صعوبات وتحديات، سواء ما تعلق منها بالظروف المجتمعية في تلك الفترة أو مواجهته لمراكز القوى في مختلف مؤسسات الدولة في ذلك الوقت وعلاقته بتلك المؤسسات ورؤسائها. وبجانب سيرته الذاتية، يتناول الدكتور الجنزوري منهجية العمل الحكومي، وكيف تقوم الحكومات بأداء عملها للحفاظ على مصالح الدول. كما يلقى الضوء على مقابلاته مع مختلف الرؤساء والزعماء وكبار المسئولين في مختلف الدول، وما دار خلف الكواليس في الكثير منها مثل تفاصيل مقابلته لبوش الأب وكلينتون وآل جور وتوني بلير ونتنياهو وما دار بينهم من أحداث.
