السلوك إلى الله سبحانه وتعالى ضرب من الخضوع بالغ حدّ النهاية ناشئ عن استشعار القلب عظمة المعبود. وليس عند القلوب المؤمنة والأرواح الطيبة والعقول الزاكية أحلى ولا ألذ ولا أطيب، ولا أسر، ولا أنعم من محبة الله، والأنس به، والشوق إلى لقائه... وكلما كانت المحبة أكمل، وإدراك المحبوب أتمّ، والقرب منه أوفر، كانت الحلاوة واللذة والسرور والنعيم أقوى. ولعل من بشائر اجتباء الله سبحانه وتعالى أن هيأ رجالاً وضّحوا معالم السلوك على هدي القرآن الكريم، وسنة النبي الصادق محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم.
ولقد كان الحكيم الترمذي من علماء القرن الثالث الهجري من هؤلاء الرجال الذين قعّدوا قواعد السلوك، وأصّلوا الأصول، وأيقظوا الأسس والوسائل، وبينوا كيفية السلوك إلى رب العالمين. وبحق كان اهتمام الحكيم الترمذي بالسلوك طابعاً بارزاً ترك آثاره في مؤلفاته ومنهجه وأسلوب حياته.
وهذا ما حاول مؤلف الكتاب الإحاطة به في بحثه هذا حول السلوك عند الترمذي. وذلك من خلال دراسة كانت بمثابة رحلة قضاها المؤلف عند الحكيم الترمذي ومصادره من السنة النبوية، تلك دفعته إلى البحث والدراسة في قضايا السلوك وأسسه ورسائله، ومصادره من الكتاب والسنة.
