ينقسم هذا الكتاب لقسمين رئيسيين يتعلق القسم الأول منه بفلسفة الإعلام، أما القسم الثاني فإنه يتعلق بدراسة نظريات الإعلام، وعلى الرغم من الاختلاف البين بين فسلفة الإعلام ونظريات الإعلام كما سنوضح لاحقا، إلا أنه قد جرت العادة في أقسام الإعلام المختلفة بدراستهما ضمن مقرر واحد بل ونجد أن بعض المراجع لا تكاد تفرق بين فلسفة الإعلام ونظرياته وتطلق على الجميع نظريات الإعلام، وهناك بعض المراجع التي تقصر مسمى نظريات الإعلام على فلسفة الإعلام فقط، وفي هذا الكتاب نعني بدراسة فلسفة الإعلام معرفة الظروف المحيطة بوسائل الإعلام والتي تتحكم في صدورها أو ما يسمى بيئة وسائل الإعلام ونعني بها معرفة الظروف السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والبيئة الدينية والأطر القانونية ودرجة الحرية المتاحة بوسائل الإعلام، ويتفق الباحثون على أن هذه العوامل هو التي تجعل وضع الإعلام يختلف من بلد لبلد.
أما نظريات الإعلام فنعني بها دراسات تأثير وسائل الإعلام والعوامل التي تشكل هذا التأثير ونجعله يختلف من وسيلة لوسيلة ومن جمهور لجمهور ومن وقت لآخر، وتجعل بعض التأثير طويل المدى وبعضه لحظي ينتهي بزوال المؤثر، نأمل إن يكون الكتاب مرجعا مفيدا لطلاب الدراسات الإعلامية في الوطن العربي وإضافة للمكتبات الجامعية العربية ولمن يريد الحصول علي نسخة منه.
